Had a neighbor call me out for idling my truck too long

She said I was burning 2 gallons an hour just sitting there waiting for the defroster, so now I scrape ice by hand instead. Has anyone else found small habits like that actually add up or is it just a drop in the bucket?

I saw a video breakdown recently that said all that extra idling can cost you a full tank over a winter. Really made me rethink waiting for the cabin to warm up while I finish my coffee.

Used to be one of those guys who'd fire up the truck 20 minutes before leaving (gotta let the seats warm up, right?). Then I actually timed it on a cold morning - ten minutes of idling, checked the gas gauge before and after, and man, that little bit was more than I thought. Now I just bundle up, scrape the ice off, and save the idling for when I'm actually moving down the road.
