Hit 2000 miles on my bike this week and it made me rethink everything about commuting
I started biking to work back in March just to save on gas, but I hit 2000 miles logged on my odometer Tuesday morning. That's like biking from my city in Oregon down to Los Angeles and back. It made me realize how much carbon I kept out of the air just by picking a different way to get around. How many miles do you guys rack up each year from your commute or daily errands?

Three hundred dollars is what I spent last month just fixing a flat tire and replacing my bike chain after it snapped on a busy road. Biking 2000 miles means you're putting serious wear on your body too - my buddy Mike got hit with a $500 medical bill after his handlebars gave out going downhill. Sure you're saving gas, but my car's AC keeps me from showing up to work soaking wet, and I can carry a week's worth of groceries in one trip. Plus my old Toyota gets 35 miles per gallon, so I'm not exactly burning through cash on gas anyway. The time savings alone of driving 15 minutes versus biking 45 minutes each way is worth more to me than any environmental benefit.

Man, that's a wild milestone... 2000 miles is no joke. I've been logging my miles too and it really adds up fast. I'm only at about 800 so far this year, mostly just to the grocery store and back, but it's crazy to think how much gas that saves. Like, I used to burn through a tank of gas every couple weeks just for dumb errands, now I only fill up maybe once a month. Plus the bike handles the potholes way better than my car ever did, haha.
