Honestly, getting my home energy audit done took over two months
I booked it in early April thinking it would be a quick check, but between the company's backlog and waiting for the right weather to test the house, it dragged into June. Ngl, I almost gave up, but the report showed my attic insulation was basically useless, which explained my high bills. Has anyone else had a simple climate step turn into a much longer project than you planned?

... and that's pretty much exactly what happened with my water heater inspection last year. I figured it'd be a quick hour visit, dude shows up, pokes around for fifteen minutes, then goes "well your tank's from 2005 so that's probably going to be your next big project."
But honestly the wait was the worst part, had to schedule it three times because first the guy got sick, then his truck broke down, then we got a surprise snowstorm. By the time he actually showed up I'd already convinced myself the water heater was fine and he was just trying to upsell me.
The report he left was basically a novel, but the main takeaway was "your hot water's costing you about 40 percent more than it should." Still haven't replaced it though, because now I'm in that weird spot where I'm waiting for it to actually break so I have a reason to spend the money.

What did the report say about your attic insulation being useless?

Oh, the "useless" part. Yeah, that was the main takeaway. Basically said it's doing a great job of keeping the spiders company and not much else. I'm pretty sure a stack of old newspapers would work better at this point. Guess my heating bill was paying for a fancy mouse hotel all winter.
