I finally stopped throwing out veggie scraps after seeing a demo at the farmer's market last month

This lady showed me how she turns carrot tops and onion peels into broth, and it saves me about $12 a week on stock. Anyone else doing this with their kitchen waste?

Oh man, I literally kept a bag of carrot peels in my freezer for three months before I got brave enough to try it. My first batch smelled like a toaster fire but hey, I saved like eight bucks on stock that week. It's a game changer if you can get past the feeling of being a raccoon hoarding trash in your fridge.

Three months is honestly impressive patience lol, I barely made it two weeks before I cracked and dumped mine into a pot. @jenny_sullivan97 you're braver than me for holding out that long. My first batch also smelled a bit like burnt popcorn and sadness but it still made my soup taste way better than the store bought stuff. Now I keep a dedicated container in the freezer door so I don't have to dig through bags of frozen peas to find my onion skins. The raccoon feeling never fully goes away but it's worth it when you realize you're not throwing money down the drain every time you make stock. Plus it's kind of fun seeing what weird combos you end up with, my last batch had random bell pepper ends and it was actually good.
