Just found out a single load of laundry on hot uses way more energy than I thought

Read a study from the University of Michigan that said about 90% of the energy used by a washing machine goes to heating the water. I've been washing everything on cold for a week now, anyone else made that switch?

Honestly, that stat blew my mind too. I switched to cold for almost everything last year. The only things I run hot now are like, really grimy kitchen towels or after someone's been sick. My clothes seem just as clean, and the electric bill did go down a bit (which is nice). It's a pretty easy habit once you get used to it.

My old roommate was super into this and got these detergent sheets made for cold water. They worked fine, but the real game changer was finding out you can soak stained stuff in a bucket with some oxyclean before the cold wash. Saves a ton of hot cycles for sure.

Wait, you can just soak stuff in a bucket with oxyclean? That actually works on tough stains without hot water? How long do you leave it for, like overnight?
