My recycling routine was a total sham until my neighbor called me out
I've been tossing plastic bags in my curbside bin for years, thinking I was doing good. Then my neighbor Steve saw me do it last Tuesday and told me those bags just clog the sorting machines at the local facility and end up in the landfill anyway. He showed me the sticker on the bin that says no plastic bags and I felt like an idiot. Now I have to drive them to the drop-off at the grocery store, which is a pain but at least it's actually getting recycled. Anyone else miss something obvious like this for way too long?

Right so Steve is now the recycling police and we all have to answer to him. I guess I've been living a lie with my yogurt containers that I definitely rinse out properly every single time. Welcome to the shame club, grab a seat next to the bin that none of us can read properly.

Welcome to the shame club, grab a seat next to the bin that none of us can read properly" - yep that's me. I used to think plastic bags were fine in the bin because they're plastic, right? But then I watched a video of a recycling center and saw how those bags wrap around the rollers and stop everything. I figured the machines could handle anything. Now I'm that guy who saves up bags in a drawer and takes them to the grocery store drop-off like some kind of recycling nerd. Honestly feels better knowing they actually get turned into something instead of just clogging up the works.
