My solar battery backup failed during the big freeze in Dallas last week
I was counting on it to keep my heat pump running, but the inverter fried when the grid went down. Has anyone found a reliable setup for extreme cold?

Yeah, same thing happened to my neighbor. His inverter couldn't handle the cold surge when the power dropped. In my experience, you really need a system rated for the low temps, not just the advertised capacity. I've heard good things about setups with a separate, insulated battery box and a pure sine wave inverter.

Seems like a lot of fuss over a rare event. Those freezes don't happen every year, so maybe it's not worth the extra cost and hassle.

Those freezes don't happen every year" is what my cousin said when his pipes burst.
