Remember that week in 2018 when the sky over Portland was orange?

It was from wildfire smoke, and it lasted five days straight. I couldn't go for a run, my eyes stung, and we had to keep the windows shut. It felt like a weird, scary preview of a new normal. Has anyone else had a moment like that, where the climate problem just got very real and close to home?

That smoke alarm battery chirp during a heatwave.

Is it just me or does that chirp get worse when the whole house feels like an oven? Honestly @ray_mitchell I used to think people were overreacting about it. But after living through one of those heatwaves where the AC can't keep up and you're already sweating, that high pitched chirp feels like a personal attack. It's like the smoke alarm knows you're miserable and wants to remind you it exists every 60 seconds. Tbh I'm never taking a working smoke alarm for granted again after that experience.
