Stopped washing my car after a 4 hour line at the gas station car wash in Phoenix

I sat there burning gas just to get the dust off, and some guy in a Prius pointed out I could use a bucket with rainwater collected from my own roof. Switched to a spray bottle and microfiber on Sundays, takes 20 minutes now. Anyone else ditched drive-thru washes for home methods?

The "20 minutes now" part is what gets me. You're trading a once in a while chore for a weekly ritual that still eats your Sunday. A spray bottle does nothing for the grime buildup Phoenix dust leaves behind, either. I tried the bucket method once and ended up with swirl marks all over my hood because I didn't clay bar it first. Drive-thru washes are lazy, sure, but they at least get the undercarriage rinsed, which matters when the summer heat bakes everything onto the paint. I'd rather sit in that line once a month than babysit my car every week.
