The alley behind my apartment went from 40 bags of trash to 4 after we got a compost bin
Our building had a rat problem for years. Turns out 80% of what we were throwing away was food scraps. Landlord finally put in a city compost pickup last November. Six months later the smell is gone, rats moved on, and the alley actually looks clean. Anyone else seen a change like this from composting?

Did the landlord cover the cost or did you guys have to chip in for the compost pickup?

Used to roll my eyes at composting honestly. Thought it was one of those crunchy hobby things that didn't really matter. Then our building started city pickup about eight months ago and the change was insane. @cameron_webb our landlord actually foots the bill for the service, but it's pretty cheap compared to what they were spending on extra garbage pickup fees. The bins get emptied weekly and we're down to maybe two bags of actual trash for the whole building now. The alley behind us went from smelling like a dumpster fire to just smelling like damp concrete. It's wild how fast the rats cleared out once the food scraps stopped piling up.
