The solar installer who said my roof was fine was wrong, cost me $400 extra

Last spring I got three quotes for panels. Two companies wanted to replace shingles first. The third guy, Ricardo, said the roof had at least 8 years left and talked me into skipping it. Fast forward to November, a leak showed up right under one of the mounting brackets. Had to pay $400 to have that panel pulled, fix two sections of decking, and reinstall. Ricardo's company went under in August so no warranty help. Anyone else get burned by a cheap quote that skipped the obvious fix?
