Thought one person cutting meat was pointless until my block went from 11 bins to 4 in two months
I always figured my own trash was a drop in the bucket, so why bother sorting anything. Then our building in Dayton started a food scrap drop off in the alley behind the laundromat back in March. I walked past it for a while and finally tried it out of guilt. Two months in, my kitchen trash went from filling an 11 gallon bag twice a week down to one small bag, and the bin room in our basement stopped smelling like old onions. It turns out about 40 percent of what I was throwing out was peels and coffee grounds, and that stuff gets heavy too, so hauling it out got easier. The scrap bin fills up fast though, so now I am wondering if anyone here has dealt with a drop off spot that keeps overflowing, and what actually got done about it.
Used to walk past a scrap drop off in Columbus that got so bad people just stacked bags next to the full bin. Heard the fix was the city adding a second pickup day once the block actually complained enough.
