Warning: Arguing that carbon offsets are a cop-out at my friend's eco-wedding made me the villain.
I told them paying to plant trees doesn't fix the jet fuel from their destination ceremony, and the happy couple hasn't spoken to me since.

Ugh, I get where you're coming from but that timing was brutal. Telling a couple their wedding plan is a cop-out is like asking if someone looks fat in their dress, it's just not the day for it. The carbon offset thing is a fair talk to have, just maybe not right before they say I do. Being right doesn't always mean you need to say it right then.

Carbon offsets getting brought up right before the ceremony is insane. Imagine the couple all dressed up and ready to go, then someone hits them with that. It's like telling them the flowers are too expensive while walking down the aisle. There are a hundred better times to chat about that stuff, maybe not when everyone is focused on love. I actually gasped reading that part, who does that?
