Went to a bike lane meeting in Portland and someone said the quiet part out loud
A city planner there told the room that safer bike routes only get built when people show up angry at council meetings, not when they send polite emails. Has anyone actually gotten their city to add a lane or a crosswalk, and what finally made them move on it?
Get where that planner is coming from but polite emails do work too, just slower. In my experience cities pay attention when the same ask keeps showing up from a lot of people over time, not just the loudest room. Showing up mad might speed things up, but steady pressure from a group that won't go away is what actually gets a crosswalk painted.
