Why does nobody talk about planting clover instead of grass in your lawn?

I switched half my yard to white clover last spring and haven't watered it once this summer. Has anyone else tried this for cutting down on gas mower use?

carr.brian, that's exactly what pushed me over the edge too, seeing my neighbor's clover patch stay green while my grass looked like a dry hayfield by July. I'd take it a step further and say the bee situation alone is worth the switch. My clover has practically become a tiny pollinator hub every morning, and I'm getting way more tomatoes from my garden this year because of it. The only thing I'd warn you about is that clover does go a little dormant in the coldest part of winter, so it won't stay totally lush like grass does. But then again, neither does my grass once the frost hits, so it's not really a loss in my book.

Used to think a regular grass lawn was just what you're supposed to have, but seeing my neighbor's clover stay green while mine turned brown totally changed my mind. I'm actually thinking about doing the same thing next spring after watching how little work theirs takes.
