A city inspector called my drone survey 'pretty but useless' last month
He said I was just taking pictures, not getting the right data for grading. Now I always plan the flight path to get overlap and tie points first. Anyone else have a checklist they run before sending a drone up?

Got to get the right data, not just pretty pictures.

Look at how people actually use the info first. A clear picture can make the data click way faster than a spreadsheet. Sometimes the picture is the right data.

That "got to get the right data" line from @wendy_ross71 hits hard because I used to be all about just making things look clean. I'd spend hours on charts that were pretty but totally missed the point. Then I had a project where I had to track customer dropoff rates - the raw numbers were a mess but a simple bar chart showing the biggest reasons made everything click instantly. So yeah, I get it now - the right data is the one that actually tells the story, not just the one that looks good on a slide.
