Caught a BIM clash a week too late on a Reno project in Austin...

Last month we were wrapping up MEP rough-ins on a mid-size commercial job in Austin. Our model coordinator flagged a ductwork vs. plumbing clash three days after the drywall crew had already hung half the ceiling. It cost us about $4,200 in tear-out and rework because nobody checked the federated model against the actual field conditions. The general superintendent admitted the coordination meetings were rushed but didn't think the software would miss anything. Has anyone else had BIM software give false confidence before a big drywall close-in?

Bro tell me about it lol. I had almost the exact same thing happen on a job in Houston last year where the duct guys and fire sprinkler guys both showed up with their models perfectly clean, but nobody checked the actual hanger locations until after the drywall was up. Cost us around $3,800 to cut out a whole section of board and relocate like four duct runs because the sprinkler pipes ran right where the main trunk was supposed to go. The worst part is the super kept saying "the model said it was fine" like that was supposed to make the drywall repair money magically appear.

Field verify everything before the model says it’s done.
