Just realized my laser level was off by 1/8 inch because of a dirty lens

I was at a job site over in Portland last week setting up string lines for a retaining wall. Kept getting weird measurements that didn't line up with my first mark. After an hour of frustration I wiped the front of my Bosch laser level with my shirt and boom it was spot on. Has anyone else had dust or grime throw their level off like that?

Did you try blowing on it first like an old Nintendo cartridge?

My Bosch gets gunked up every time I cut treated lumber, same 1/8 inch shift every time.
