Last Monday's BIM model crash cost me 6 hours of work

I was halfway through coordinating the MEP rough-in for a 12-story tower in Austin when Revit just froze and dumped everything. No auto-save caught the last 3 hours of work. The IT guy said it was a corrupted family file from the structural engineer's side, but I still had to redo all my clash detection. Has anyone else dealt with a software crash that set their whole week back like that?

cost me 6 hours of work" Really though? I mean yeah it sucks losing progress but 6 hours to redo clash detection on one floor? That sounds like you were WAY too deep into manual work instead of using the tools right. Revit crashes all the time, that's just a fact of life in this industry. If you aren't saving every 15 minutes manually and keeping backup copies of your project file then you're kind of asking for trouble. Plus the IT guy probably just blamed the structural engineer because that's what they always do. I bet if you looked closer you'd find it was something dumb on your end like a bad wall join or an overconstrained family.

Yeah but to be fair losing 6 hours on a 12 story tower is brutal no matter what. A crash that wipes 3 hours with no autosave is just bad luck, not bad workflow. Sometimes the software just screws you and you gotta eat it.
