Met a guy at the jobsite who showed me why RFID tags fail on rebar

He was placing concrete and said his scanner kept reading false positives because the tags were too close to the steel mesh. Now I always leave at least 6 inches gap on my reinforcement projects. Anyone else run into signal interference with concrete sensors?

@lane.angela nailed it. Rotating the tag 90 degrees saved my last pour too.

6 inches is the magic number honestly lol. I learned that the hard way after a job where every single rebar tag was throwing false reads. Steel mesh acts like a big antenna and just messes with the signal completely. If you're dealing with tight spacing, try rotating the tag 90 degrees to the rebar, that helped me a ton. Also worth checking if your scanner has a sensitivity setting, some of the newer ones let you dial it back. Just test a few spots before the concrete goes in, saves so much headache.
