Our site in Denver went from chaos to calm after we started using that new drone mapping software

Last Thursday, we got a full 3D site scan done in 20 minutes instead of a half-day survey, and the crew actually knew where to dig. Anyone else try something that cut their survey time in half?

That sounds great on paper, but the setup and processing time never get counted. Spent two hours just getting the flight plan right and another hour waiting for the point cloud to render. For a simple dig, a guy with a GPS rover is still faster and cheaper.

Honestly, how many times have I been that guy trying to make the fancy tech work? Tbh, I once spent a whole afternoon just trying to get the drone to talk to the tablet. By the time I got a single image, the surveyor with the rover had already packed up and gone home for lunch. It feels cool until you're just sitting there watching a progress bar. Sometimes the old way is just the right tool for a simple job.

That two hour flight plan setup is the part nobody talks about. Did your crew ever try just having one person dedicated to the drone while everyone else works the traditional way, or was it always a distraction from the main job?
