Overheard a structural engineer talking about drone photogrammetry on a job in Raleigh last week
He said it cut his site survey time from a full day down to 45 minutes and the point cloud accuracy was within an inch. Has anyone else switched over from traditional surveying gear yet?

A buddy of mine at a small firm in Charlotte switched over about a year ago and he won't go back. He said the drone setup paid for itself in like four months just from the time saved on those big commercial sites. The accuracy thing is real but you gotta be careful with tree cover or reflective surfaces, can mess with the point cloud. He had one job where the drone data was off by almost three inches because of a metal roof glare. Still beats dragging a total rod through mud and poison ivy all day though.

Three inches off because of a metal roof glare? That's wild, but honestly @fiona330, I gotta wonder how much that really matters in the real world. Is your buddy building a rocket ship or just measuring out parking lots? If it's within a stone's throw, most clients ain't gonna care about a couple inches unless it's some real tight fit. Seems like people get all worked up over technical specs that don't change the bottom line half the time.
