Rant: My concrete guy told me to ditch the laser level and it hit hard

I was talking to my old foreman, Mike, over beers last Friday. He said he hasn't used a traditional laser level on a slab pour in like 5 years, he just uses a rotary laser with a digital receiver now. At first I thought he was full of it, but he showed me the logged data from a 40-yard pour in Austin where their tolerance was within 1/8 inch across the whole floor. That made me rethink my whole setup. I've been using the same old self-leveling green beam for years now. Has anyone else made the jump to a digital receiver setup for flat work?

Digital receivers are a total game changer for large pours.

My buddy and I ran a 35-yard slab two months ago in Round Rock and I stuck with my old green beam because I just don't trust those digital receivers when the sun gets blasting hot. I get what @hollym82 is saying about them being good for big pours but I've seen too many guys fighting with readouts glitching out on reflective surfaces or dusty sites. Plus there's something about seeing that red line hit your rod that makes me feel like I actually know what the grade is doing instead of trusting a little screen that might be a bar off. I'd rather spend the extra ten minutes checking manually than have to grind down a high spot later because the receiver lied to me.
