Saw a crew using drone photogrammetry on a site near Nashville last Friday

They mapped a whole 5 acre plot in under 2 hours with GPS accuracy down to a quarter inch, which made me wonder how many other small contractors are sleeping on this tech for takeoffs and grading.

Yeah, I mean, that half inch accuracy sounds nice on paper but I've had buddies who tried drone mapping and ended up with data that was just off enough to screw up a grade. Plus the software subscriptions and licensing are a total racket, it's not just the drone you're paying for.

Right, because nothing says "saving money" like dropping thousands on a drone and then getting to pay monthly for the privilege of looking at your own data. Sounds like the buddies ended up paying extra for the privilege of redoing their work with a total station anyway.
