Shoutout to the guy who showed me how thermal imaging works on a jobsite in Austin
Saw a contractor using a FLIR camera to check for insulation gaps during a remodel last month. He pointed it at a wall that looked fine but the blue and purple patches told a totally different story. Found out it costs under $400 for a decent one now, which is way cheaper than I thought. Has anyone else used one to catch hidden problems before they get expensive?

Is it really that serious for a basic remodel?

lol my first "basic remodel" turned into me living with a half-demolished kitchen for 8 months because i found mold behind the cabinets. then the new countertops didn't fit right. then i realized the plumbing was from 1972. so yeah it can get that serious real quick if you're unlucky like me.
