Shoutout to the guy who told me to stop using so much foam on my concrete pours
Ngl, I was using this thick foam backer rod on every single control joint for years. An old foreman on a site in Denver last fall told me to switch to a thin rope or just use a wet saw and skip the foam altogether. I tried it on a 50 yard parking lot slab and saved about 4 hours of cutting time and 80 bucks in materials. Now I'm wondering if the foam was even doing anything for cracks or if it was just a habit from the 90s. Has anyone else switched to a different joint method and seen better results, or is the foam still the way to go in certain conditions?

Yeah I used to swear by foam but you just changed my mind on that. Good point.

Switching from foam to a wet saw for joints just sounds like more work to me honestly.
