Spent 3 hours calibrating a new total station and it was off by 1.4 inches on the first shot

Set up a brand new Leica at a job site in Austin last week, followed the manual perfectly, and my first backsight was 1.4 inches off the control point. Turns out the tribrach was loose right out of the box. Anyone else run into factory defects wasting your time on site?

Whoa, I actually read something about Leica tribrachs being loose from the factory on another forum last month! A few surveyors there said it's becoming a known issue with certain batches. Probably worth getting a replacement tribrach before your next job.

Yeah I had the same issue with mine last year, swapping out the tribrach fixed everything and it's been rock solid ever since. Definitely worth the hassle of getting a replacement before you're out in the field dealing with that wobble.
