That guy who told me to ditch my total station for a drone on a 50-acre site was completely right
I fought him for 2 hours saying drones were a gimmick, then I borrowed his M300 for a grading job near Phoenix and got the whole topo done in 45 minutes instead of 3 days. Has anyone else found a piece of tech they swore was overhyped that actually saved their ass?

First time I trusted GPS over a paper map was the same kind of payoff.

Wait but that's actually a little different from what you're describing. GPS fails are usually more about not having reception or being sent down a dirt road, whereas the whole AI search thing is giving you confidently wrong info that sounds real. Paper maps had their own problems like getting outdated or folding wrong, but at least you knew when you were lost because nothing matched up visually. With GPS and AI, the mistake looks right until you're already in trouble. It's like the technology is gaslighting you instead of just being wrong.
