That new laser layout tool I demoed last week was a total bust

I was on a commercial job site in Phoenix last Wednesday and the GC insisted we try this new self-leveling laser system from a startup. He claimed it would cut our layout time by half on a 20,000 square foot slab. By lunch, we had to switch back to our old rotary laser because the new one kept drifting in the heat. I get that tech is supposed to make things faster, but sometimes the old methods just work better in real conditions. Has anyone else had a high-tech tool fail on them when it counted?

That 120 degree Phoenix heat is brutal on electronics, I've seen it fry more than one fancy tool on a jobsite. It reminds me how my brother's brand new smart thermostat at his house in Tucson kept locking up in the summer, but the old manual one in his garage still works fine after 20 years. Sometimes the simplest stuff just wins because it's built to handle real world abuse, not just a climate controlled lab.
