Vent: That moment you realize your grade stake was off by 2 feet all day

I spent the better part of yesterday digging footings for a retaining wall on a job site near Denver. Only after I had the forms set and concrete ordered did I check my smart level against the old benchmark... turns out my laser transit was out of whack from a drop last week. Ended up having to redo 3 holes because the whole line was shifted 2 feet down the hill. Has anyone else had a tool calibration fail that cost them a whole day of work?

Two feet? Rookie numbers. I once set a whole fence line 18 inches into my neighbor's property because I thought my dad's old string level was good enough. (Spoiler: it was not.) The guy came out with his fancy GPS and just stared at me like I was growing a second head. Ended up buying him a steak dinner to apologize for basically claiming his azalea bushes as my own. Good times.

Respectfully @robert_rodriguez66, I see it the opposite way - two feet is bush league, I once dug a post hole a full yard over.
