Bought a 'universal' phone mount for my car that lasted exactly two days.
It was a cheap $15 thing from a gas station, and the suction cup gave out while I was driving, sending my phone into the passenger footwell. What's a decent mount that actually stays put?

Ugh, been there. I had the same problem with those flimsy suction cups. In my experience, a mount that clips into your air vent is way more reliable. I got one for about twenty bucks online and it hasn't budged in over a year. The key is to make sure the clamp part has a good grip on your phone's case. Just my two cents, it worked for me.

I hear you on the vent clip idea, but I have to push back a little on the "hasn't budged" part. In my car, those vent clips are a total nightmare in the summer or winter. When you blast the AC or the heat, the plastic on the vent fins gets soft and the whole mount gets wobbly. I've had my phone take a dive into the passenger seat more than once because of it. Your mileage may vary depending on your car vents, but it's a real weak spot for that style.
