Got chewed out by a barista for ordering "iced coffee" instead of "cold brew"

I always thought iced coffee and cold brew were the same thing. This barista in Portland went off on me about the brewing process. Said cold brew takes 12 hours and iced coffee is just hot coffee poured over ice. Now I order cold brew specifically even though I can't taste the difference. My wife says it's a waste of money when I can just make iced coffee at home. But the barista's passion stuck with me. Has anyone else had a food or drink order totally corrected by someone who clearly cared way more than you did?

Gotta be real with you, I don't think the barista's lecture was that deep, man probably just wanted to sound important behind the counter.

Get so caught up in the little corrections that you miss the bigger point. They're not just mad about coffee, they're mad about how nobody cares about the details anymore. It's like when a waiter explains the daily specials for five minutes and you just want a burger. Passion is great but sometimes you gotta read the room. People don't need a lecture every time they order something simple.
