I bought a 'smart' plant sensor that told me to water a cactus every day
Saw an ad for this little gadget you stick in your plant's soil. It connects to your phone and tells you when to water. Sounded perfect for my little cactus collection. Spent 45 bucks on it. The app told me my cactus needed water every single morning. I followed it for about three days before the first plant started to look really sad and soft. Turns out the sensor was just cheap and broken, giving the same wet reading no matter what. I lost a nice little golden barrel cactus that I'd had for two years. Now I'm back to just poking the dirt with my finger like always. Has anyone else had a gadget completely fail at its one job like that?

Oh man... that's rough. I feel your pain. I once bought a "smart" kitchen scale that was so bad it told me a single grape weighed two pounds. Like you said, sometimes the old way is just better... my poor cactus would have been a goner too. Sorry about your golden barrel, that really stinks.

What did you end up doing with that scale?
