I finally caved and bought that $40 jar of fancy honey...
Saw it at the farmers market last Saturday in Portland and the guy swore it was 'single origin wildflower from the mountains.' Got it home, tried it on my toast, and it literally tasted EXACTLY like the $8 bottle from the grocery store. I think I got totally played by the cute packaging and his story. Has anyone else fallen for an overpriced food item that was a complete dud?

Yeah I got suckered into buying a $25 jar of 'artisanal sea salt' from some guy at a craft fair. Tasted like normal salt, pretty sure he just dyed it pink and put it in a fancy bag. Felt like such a fool.

Hear me out though, I actually kinda like the hype around fancy salt. I mean yeah, you can get the same stuff for way less at the grocery store, but buying it from a random guy at a craft fair is half the fun. It's like paying for the story and the weird little jar he put it in, not the sodium itself. I just think of it as a souvenir that you can also use to season your eggs. At least you didn't buy a $25 candle that smells like a wet dog, right?
