My dad told me to 'just use less salt' on my brisket, and it took 3 tries to figure out he was right
Last month I kept getting salty bark on my overnight smokes. My dad, who cooks like maybe once a year, told me to cut my rub salt by half. I ignored him for two briskets cause he never smokes anything. Finally tried his way on a 12 pounder this Sunday and it came out perfect, not bland at all. Anyone else have family members who give weirdly good advice about something they don't even do?

My buddy slapped ham with half the sugar once and it won a contest.

Well now, I have to respectfully disagree here. Salt management is about technique and timing, not just cutting the amount in half - you might be missing out on important moisture retention by going too light.
