My empty fridge trick for grocery runs

I kept buying stuff I already had at home, wasting money and food. So I started taking one photo of my fridge shelves before I leave for the store. Takes 10 seconds, and I stop grabbing duplicate mustard or forgetting I have leftover chicken. Has anyone else tried snapping a quick pic before shopping?

Ask @bethj44 how many shame-fridge photos she's got saved now.

Oh man, I tried that once and ended up with a photo of a shelf so empty it looked like a minimalist art project. I forgot I had already eaten all the leftovers and just snapped a pic of the sad, bare glass. Now I have a whole gallery of fridge shame on my phone. But seriously, your trick is genius because I've definitely bought a third jar of pickles when I only needed pickles in the first place.

Right, because nothing says "I have my life together" like a gallery of empty shelves and pickles you could open a restaurant with. I get the fridge shame though, my phone is basically a museum of "I forgot I had that" moments, like the time I took a proud photo of a drawer full of three month old bagged salads. Now every time I open my fridge app, it's like flipping through a sad before and after of my own grocery failures. Did you at least frame that minimalist masterpiece, or is it just for your personal collection of cold, hard truths?
