My fridge trick for keeping lettuce crisp actually worked

I was sick of my romaine going limp in 2 days, so I tried wrapping the whole head in a damp paper towel and putting it in a plastic bag. It stayed crunchy for a full week. Is it worth the extra step, or is it just easier to buy the pre-washed bags?
