Overheard a woman at the hardware store telling her friend she doesn't need to read instructions
I was at the Ace Hardware on Main Street yesterday and heard a woman tell her friend, "Oh I never look at the manual, I just figure it out." She was buying a new thermostat and I wanted to say something but I kept my mouth shut. Next week she'll probably be back complaining it doesn't work right after she wired it backwards. Has anyone else noticed people who skip instructions end up costing themselves more time and money in the long run?

Used to work retail. Lady returned a ceiling fan because it "didn't work right." Opened the box and she had wired the whole thing backwards. The manual was still sitting in there untouched, not even unfolded. People pay for their pride later.

People always say the manual is for "other people" until they wire a ceiling fan like a toaster. @rosed32 hit it on the head though, pride costs more than the return shipping.
