Rant: My whole Tuesday got wrecked by a single missing screw

I was putting together a simple shelf from a flat pack box, the kind I've done a dozen times before. Had all the pieces laid out, my little cordless drill charged up and ready to go. Got through the whole frame, went to attach the first shelf bracket... and the bag of hardware was one screw short. Just one. Not a special one either, just a standard 1.5 inch wood screw. I tore apart the box, checked the floor, even dumped out the trash. Nothing. Had to stop everything, drive 15 minutes to the hardware store, buy a whole new box of screws for a project that needed exactly one. The whole trip, plus finding the right aisle, took over 40 minutes and just killed my momentum for the whole afternoon. Has anyone else had a tiny, cheap part completely derail a simple job?

Honestly I kind of like the hardware store trip. Gets me out of the house, away from the half-finished project. I always end up wandering the aisles, finding some other little thing I needed anyway. It's a forced break that usually helps me come back with fresh eyes.

Ugh, the universe runs on missing screws.

My third trip to Home Depot yesterday finally got the right size.
