Serious question, did you know how much water a leaky toilet can waste?
Honestly, I was reading a city water conservation pamphlet at the library yesterday and it said a silent leak can waste over 200 gallons a day. Tbh, I immediately went home and checked mine. Has anyone else had a sneaky leak like that?

That number is actually a bit low for a really bad leak. The EPA says a running toilet can waste up to 6,000 gallons a month, which is way more than 200 a day. It adds up crazy fast on your water bill. The food coloring test in the tank is the easiest way to check. Just a few drops and wait to see if it shows up in the bowl.

Yeah that food coloring trick saved me last year. My bill was insane before I figured it out.

Oh man, my best friend Sarah had this happen. She lived in this old duplex where the toilet would just randomly run for like a minute every hour at night. She ignored it for months until her water bill jumped from 40 bucks to 180. I went with her to buy a new flapper at Home Depot, cost like 8 dollars. She fixed it in 10 minutes and her bill dropped back down the next month. She felt so dumb but honestly, who even thinks about their toilet parts until it's too late?
