Shoutout to the cashier at Home Depot who told me to stop buying the cheap sandpaper
I was in the checkout line last Tuesday grabbing my usual 3-pack of the store brand 80-grit for like $4. She just looked at me and said "you know that stuff wears out in 2 passes right?" Pointed me to the Diablo mesh stuff. It's $8 a sheet but I used ONE sheet for an entire weekend of sanding drywall compound. The cheap stuff would have been 4 packs and way more frustration. Has anyone else had a random employee save them time and money like that?

Lowe's paint guy saved me from buying the wrong primer once.

Oh come on, how serious can a primer mistake really be? It's not like you're painting a nuclear reactor or something. Unless you're doing something crazy like putting oil-based over latex or vice versa, most primers are pretty forgiving. I've grabbed the wrong can before and it still turned out fine after a couple coats. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I don't think a primer screw-up is going to ruin your whole project. What kind of disaster were you trying to avoid?
