The diner's coffee got watery after they switched filters last month
I've been going to the same place on Marshall Avenue for years, and suddenly the brew tastes like hot dishwater. They swapped to a cheaper paper filter brand, and now I'm wondering if I should just start making my own at 6am instead of stopping there. Anyone else notice this with their regular spot?

Why would you blame the filters when you know full well the problem might just be your own taste buds changing? I mean, people get used to a certain strength and flavor over time, and then one day their mouth just starts noticing things it didn't before. Filters are filters, they barely touch the flavor compared to the beans or the water temperature, which that place probably messes up on a slow Tuesday anyway. Honestly, watery coffee is often just a sign the machine wasn't cleaned right or they rushed the brew cycle, not some cheap paper conspiracy. You said yourself it's been years, so maybe the owner swapped roasters too but didn't tell anyone, and you're just fixating on the filters because it's the only thing you can see changed. Give it another week before you ditch the place, and if it's still bad, then sure, save your money and brew at home.
