The quiet coffee shop on my corner is gone now

Honestly, it used to be my spot for a cheap, quiet coffee for like five years. I'd get a large for $2.50 and just sit. Over the last six months, they swapped the comfy chairs for tiny metal stools, put in super bright lights, and the price went up to $4.75. It feels like they wanted to look trendy for social media pictures instead of being a place to actually relax. Tbh, it just bums me out that a good, simple thing had to change. Has anyone else seen a favorite local spot get a 'makeover' that ruined the vibe?

My buddy's favorite dive bar did that. Now it's all white paint and feels like a dentist's office.

My friend's husband had a place like that. They ripped out the old wood bar and put in some shiny metal one. All the mismatched chairs got swapped for matching gray ones. He said it lost its soul, just feels cold and empty now.

Oh man, that stings. I actually read somewhere that a lot of these places are doing the same thing because they think it'll bring in more customers from Instagram or whatever. It's like they forget the people who actually kept them going for years. I heard about a coffee shop in another city that did the exact same thing, swapped out all the cozy stuff for that cold, minimalist look. The regulars stopped coming within a month, and the new crowd just came for one photo and left. It's such a shame, a good spot with worn-in chairs and cheap coffee is hard to replace. I really miss my old neighborhood place for that reason, it's like they don't see the value in just being comfortable.
