Vent: the new automatic soap dispenser at my gym is a menace

I went to the gym downtown on Tuesday morning and they installed one of those touchless soap dispensers near the sinks. The sensor is way too sensitive. I waved my hand under it and it shot soap straight onto my shirt. Then I tried again more carefully and it blasted a puddle onto the counter. By my third attempt I just gave up and used hand sanitizer. Anyone else run into these things that act like they’re possessed?

I read those touchless dispensers jam up from cheap soap refills.

The cheap soap clogs them, but that’s more about the nozzle design than the soap quality.

But honestly, I've had the exact opposite experience with those touchless dispensers. I think @the_drew's got it backwards - the cheap soap clogs them regardless of how good the nozzle is, just takes a little longer with a better design. The real issue is the crappy soap evaporating or gelling up in the tube.
