Went to my old neighborhood diner last week and realized the prices aren't the only thing that changed

Oh man, for real though. I hit up my old spot a few months back and it was like the soul got swapped out or something. The menu had a bunch of fancy new stuff that nobody asked for, and the waitress didn't even know my usual order anymore. They used to have this greasy spoon hash browns that were perfect, and now it's all fancy shredded potatoes that are way too dry. I mean, sometimes you just want the old sticky vinyl booth and a coffee that tastes like it's been sitting on the burner all day, you know?

You know what worked for me at Dottie's? I just started asking for the old stuff by name. Like I'd say "hey can I get the old school hash browns, the greasy flat ones you guys used to have?" and sometimes they'd still make them if the cook remembered. It's a total crapshoot though. Also try going at like 6am on a Tuesday when the hipster crowd isn't around yet, that's when the old regulars and the OG cooks are still holding it down.

Huh, is the hash brown situation really that deep?
