Best week Ive had in months fixing old VCRs

Last Tuesday someone brought in a 1985 Panasonic VCR that smelled like it had been in a basement for 20 years. I spent three hours cleaning the tape path and replacing a single blown capacitor on the power board, and it actually powered on and played a tape perfectly. Has anyone else had that moment where you fix something that seemed hopeless and it just works?

Isn't that the best feeling when a crusty old board actually comes back to life though?

yeah I gotta respectfully disagree on that one. old boards are cool and all but half the time they're just a headache waiting to happen. dried out caps, cracked traces, bad solder joints that take forever to track down. i've spent way too many hours trying to revive something that just ends up being a paperweight anyway. new gear might be boring but at least it works right out of the box.
