Found a weird fix for a dead power supply on a 2008 Samsung TV
Had a 43 inch LCD from a client in Seattle, no power at all. Checked caps and they looked fine but swapped them anyway and still nothing. Turns out a cold solder joint on the main transformer pin was the issue, anyone ever run into that before?

I actually had a 2008 Samsung 46 inch that did the same thing and the transformer pins looked perfect under a magnifying glass... cold solder joints are tricky like that. But I gotta push back a little on this being the main fix for most dead power supplies. I've run into way more issues with bad startup resistors or cracked solder on the power IC legs than transformer pins. In my experience the transformer pins fail less often than people think... maybe 1 out of 10 dead sets. Other problems like swollen caps that look fine or bad optocouplers seem way more common on these older Samsung boards.

You check the solder joints on those transformer pins? That's exactly what fixed a dead Sony Bravia I worked on last month.
