Found out the hard way about mixing power adapters

I was fixing a vintage radio and grabbed a random power adapter from my bin. It was the wrong voltage and now the main circuit board is fried. Always check the output voltage and current before you connect anything. I had to order a replacement board that took weeks to arrive.

My brother's Atari 2600 got the same treatment from me a few years ago... I was in a hurry and used a 12V adapter on a 9V system. Saw a little puff of smoke and that was it, totally fried. Had to scour eBay for a new power board that took forever to arrive... Now I literally read the tiny print on every plug before I connect it. Learned that lesson the hard way just like you did...

Think @kelly.michael, some gadgets handle wrong volts fine, so yours might have been a lemon.

Fried a CB radio the same way once, had the right voltage but the polarity was backwards. My genius move was thinking "maybe it'll work anyway." Spoiler: it did not.
