I finally cleared up corroded battery contacts in a remote control

My friend's TV remote stopped working, and I found green corrosion on the batteries. I used a cotton swab with white vinegar to clean it, and now it works like new. What's your go-to method for cleaning battery corrosion?

Watched my friend fix their kid's toy car by scrubbing the battery compartment with a baking soda paste. They used an old toothbrush and everything, which was kinda gross but effective. The thing had been sitting for months, but after a good clean, it started rolling again. Maybe it's just me, but I always forget baking soda works for that too.

My attempt at cleaning a remote control battery compartment last summer was a disaster. I used baking soda paste but didn't realize the batteries were still in, so it sparked and died. The remote never worked again, and I had to explain to my wife why we needed a new one. I'm so bad at DIY fixes that I've just accepted buying new electronics whenever they act up.

At least you remembered to take the batteries out first.
