Just realized my old soldering iron was holding me back big time
I spent 2 years using this $15 iron from the hardware store, fighting cold joints and burning tips left and right. Finally broke down and got a Hakko FX-888D after a guy at the shop told me to stop being cheap. First board I did with it flowed like butter, no fuss. How many of you started with a junk iron and thought it was normal?

Oh man, I felt this one in my soul. I used a Radio Shack special for like three years thinking I just sucked at soldering, you know? Cold joints everywhere, tips that looked like burnt toast after a week. It's wild how we normalize fighting with tools when the real problem is the tool itself (and maybe a little stubbornness). When I finally switched to something half decent, it was like that scene in a movie where the glasses come off and everything's suddenly sharp. Welcome to the other side, seriously glad you made the jump.
